Mayako Nakamura

Tableware

Sandblasted Arita Yaki Dish

Description

We present vessels of joy and healing into your daily life.

EATART tableware features intricate designs hand-painted by Mayako Nakamura in collaboration with Riso Porcelain in Arita, Saga. Inspired by the natural beauty of Japan, Mayako uses plants like shepherd’s purse, mugwort, Japanese pampas grass, and sakura branches as her “Plant Brushes.” With gosu (cobalt oxide), she paints on unglazed pottery capturing the delicate essence of nature, making the grass and trees appear as if swaying gently in the wind. Each finished piece evokes a sense of movement and tranquility, transforming into a serene landscape that tells a story.

The crafting process begins with molding and unglazed firing, followed by underglaze painting and the application of a blue glaze. The pieces are then baked in the kiln and sandblasted, resulting in a unique texture. This final sandblasting step enhances the depth of the Arita Blue and gives the tableware a smooth, stone-like finish. EATART tableware, created at Riso Porcelain, embodies the perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistry. Each piece is not only functional but also a work of art that brings joy, comfort and elegance to your daily life. • Precautions

*Please wash porcelain pieces with a neutral detergent and a soft sponge before use.

*You can use microwaves and dishwashers, but we do not recommend them as they may damage the utensils. Please do not use in the oven as it is not heat resistant.

  • Handling

*Before serving food, rinse the tableware with lukewarm water when serving hot food, and cold water when serving cold food. This help prevent staining from soy sauce and oil, while also maintaining the temperature of your food – keeping hot dishes hot and cold dishes cold. With regular use, your skin will become moisturized and you can enjoy the change over time.

  • Care

*Wash with a soft sponge and neutral detergent. Retained moisture can lead to mold and odor, so ensure the tableware is thoroughly dried before long-term storage.

*Tea stains may develop with use. While these will gradually absorb into the dishware. If you are concerned about odors, you can soak the items in baking soda water for half a day to a day and then dry them. Avoid using bleach on gold, silver, and colored items, as it may cause fading.
